Why Your Work Environment Might be Harming Your Hair Color

Don’t worry, we won’t encourage you to go find a new job, but after reading why your work environment may be harming your hair color, you may want to take some steps to protect your investment. The truth is, the big bully at your office might be the light bulbs! Do you work under fluorescent lights? They are one of the top five stripping agents of hair color. Yikes! You see, fluorescent lights emit a small amount of ultraviolet (UV) light. What? Yep. So when you work in this environment day in and day out, and for some, may even go home to the same environment, you’re essentially exposing your hair to constant sun light. It’s not just your hair color that may take a beating. Over time, you may recognize that paintings, textiles and prints in a room with fluorescent light have faded. To protect your beautiful hair color investment, we have a few recommendations.

What to do at home if you’re blonde?
If you’re blonde, we recommend using a color protection shampoo & conditioner that has a color-balancing technology built in it. In other words, the purple shampoo. Why? Because when your hair color is essentially being stripped, it reacts the same way as if you were out in the sun all day long. It will fade. And when it fades, you’ll see your underlying pigments exposed. And for each and every human being on the planet, those underlying pigments are going to be warm tones, aka, sunset tones. So if you think about neutralizing yellow or orange paint, you’d add blue or purple to the mix and you’d end up with a tan or brown. The warmth has been “cut” from the formula. Isn’t chemistry awesome? We agree! At Be Inspired Salon, we have two options for you.

What to do at home if you’re brunette have red hair?
If you’re a brunette or red head, you’re going to notice your hair seems lack-luster. It’s lost its vibrancy, its shine and its depth. To be as preventative as possible, we recommend using color protection shampoo & conditioner. While we have many options at Be Inspired Salon, there’s one product line we love to promote because, get this– All of their products have color protection technology! Woohoo! The Surface Hair line has the Color Vita-Complex in their products. This complex combines antioxidants, vitamins A, C and E, along with Ceramide 3, which locks color into the hair. Its job is to help eliminate free radicals that over time will break down the color molecule. Okay, without getting too scientific, the point is, it’s awesome and we know you’ll love them as much as we do!

What to do at the salon regardless of your hair color?
The answer is booking a glaze color appointment. A glaze color service is a semi-permanent hair color that essentially “stains” the hair. It’s a high-shine, highly hydrating color, that will keep your color as fresh and on point as if it were the day you had your original color performed. The best news is, this is the only color available that will actually improve the condition of the hair because it’s an acidic formula. And wouldn’t you know, your hair, skin and nails are acidic too. Genius! If you’re a blonde, we’d apply a tone that will neutralize unwanted warmth that’s resurfacing. And if you’re a brunette or red head, you’ll leave true to the original vibrant color you started with. Sweet! We know we said that was the best news, but what’s even cooler? This appointment takes less than an hour and costs less than 50. Book your color glaze here!
