If You Color Your Hair, You Need to Know This!

We’ve been telling you this for years, and now we’re wrong. And it’s affecting the outcome of your hair color results! What could we be talking about? The answer is, washing your hair! It’s been over ten years that we’ve advised you to come in with “dirty” hair prior to your all-over color, balayage or highlights hair appointment. And now we have to tell you that this advice is outdated! No longer is it the truth and we’ll explain why.

THE BACKGROUND

First, we used to inform you of how important it was to have oily hair prior to coloring, but that is because our hair color chemicals were pretty harsh. We needed you to have a protection built up, per se, to prevent those chemicals from sitting directly on the skin of your scalp. Wow, does this sound sort of scary when you think about it? We think so too. But the good news is, our hair color technology has changed!

THE NEW & NOW

Goldwell hair color has updated their technology in a significant way. Now you can get the same amazing color results without having to worry if there could be long term affects to your hair’s health. You may be thinking, “great, I wasn’t even concerned about that before”.  We totally get that—and neither were we… But we are very concerned about the results of your hair color. So we have to shout this new advice from the roof tops! You must wash your hair the day before or the morning of your appointment if you want the very best results.

Hey, we understand that this might be a pain. But a bigger pain is investing in superior hair color and not reaping the full benefits that you should. So for the love of all things bold and beautiful, please take our recommendation to heart, and start preparing for fabulous hair color by cleansing, conditioning, and drying your hair prior to your visit.

THE NEXT STEP

Finally, if  you want to take our advice to the next level, please use the following guidelines for properly prepping your hair for your hair color appointment.  Wash your hair twice while showering so you fully remove all oils and product build up. Follow up with conditioning, so you add hydration back into your hair. Then avoid using any oil products prior to blow drying or diffusing, but instead, use a heat protectant gel. Here are a couple of product recommendations!
